Project Mu HC M1 Front Brake Pads
For 1983–1987 Toyota Corolla AE86 Trueno / Levin and 1984–1987 U.S.-Market Corolla Sport AE86
Overview
Project Mu HC M1 Front Brake Pads are a high-performance street-sports and circuit compound for Toyota AE86 front disc brake applications. HC M1 uses Super Graphite Metallic friction material with an applicable rotor temperature range of 50–800°C and a 0.41–0.55μ friction coefficient.
The compound is designed to build braking force progressively with pedal input, giving the driver linear, predictable modulation while maintaining stable friction at elevated temperatures. HC M1 also places greater emphasis on reduced brake dust within Project Mu's HC-series graphite-metallic range, making it well suited to performance-driven AE86s that still spend meaningful time on the street.
Key Features
- 50–800°C applicable rotor temperature range
- 0.41–0.55μ friction coefficient
- Super Graphite Metallic friction material
- Linear pedal response for predictable brake modulation
- Stable friction during elevated-temperature braking
- Reduced dust within Project Mu's HC-series graphite-metallic range
- Designed for street-sports and circuit use
- Front axle application for factory-style AE86 disc brakes
HC M1 Compound
HC M1 is designed to produce progressive braking force as pedal pressure increases rather than an abrupt initial response. This gives the driver greater control when approaching the limit and makes the compound particularly useful when consistent modulation is as important as outright braking force.
Its broad thermal operating range gives HC M1 substantial high-temperature capability while retaining a street-sports focus. This positions it between lower-temperature street compounds and more specialized competition pads that require greater brake temperature to operate effectively.

Project Mu AE86 Front Brake Pad Comparison
| Brake Pad | Primary Use | Rotor Temperature | Friction Coefficient | Character |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TYPE NS | Daily / Street | 0–400°C | 0.37–0.40μ | Street-focused with emphasis on lower noise and dust |
| B-Force | Performance Street / Canyon / Autocross / Light Track | 0–500°C | 0.32–0.45μ | Additional thermal capacity while retaining street usability |
| TYPE HC+ | Aggressive Street / Track Day | 0–800°C | 0.43–0.58μ | Higher friction with broad temperature capability |
| HC M1 | Performance Street / Track Day | 50–800°C | 0.41–0.55μ | Linear modulation with strong high-temperature stability |
| Club Racer RC09 | Dedicated Circuit / Competition | 300–800°C | 0.42–0.55μ | Race-focused compound for sustained high-temperature braking |
TYPE NS is the street-focused choice for regularly driven AE86s where cold response, reduced dust, and reduced noise are priorities.
B-Force is the next step for a harder-driven street car. Its 0–500°C range adds thermal capacity for canyon driving, autocross, and occasional light track use without requiring elevated brake temperature before working effectively.
TYPE HC+ substantially increases friction capability while retaining a 0°C lower operating threshold, making it a strong aggressive-street and track-day crossover.
HC M1 provides a more refined high-performance character with linear pedal control, high-temperature stability, and a 50–800°C working range.
Club Racer RC09 is the dedicated circuit option. Its 300°C minimum operating temperature makes it substantially less suitable for normal cold street use.
