Project Mu B-Force Front Brake Pads

For 1983–1987 Toyota Corolla Levin / Sprinter Trueno AE86, 1984–1987 Corolla Sport SR5 & 1985–1987 Corolla Sport GT-S

Overview

The Project Mu B-Force Front Brake Pads are a performance-oriented upgrade for the factory front braking system on the rear-wheel-drive Toyota AE86. Designed for performance street use with occasional light track driving, the B-Force compound provides responsive initial braking and improved resistance to fade during repeated braking.

The super graphite metallic friction material operates across a broad 0–500°C (32–932°F) rotor-temperature range with a 0.32–0.45 μ friction coefficient, making these pads well suited to daily driving, spirited mountain roads, autocross, and other enthusiast use.

The front pad application is shared across the factory AE86 front brake configuration used by North American Corolla Sport SR5 and GT-S models, allowing both trims to use the same B-Force front brake pad set.

Key Features

  • Performance front brake pad set for the Toyota AE86
  • Fits factory SR5 and GT-S front brake applications
  • Super graphite metallic friction material
  • 0–500°C (32–932°F) applicable rotor-temperature range
  • 0.32–0.45 μ friction coefficient
  • Responsive initial braking characteristics
  • Improved fade resistance during repeated braking
  • Designed for performance street and light track use
  • Vehicle-specific front brake pad design

B-Force Street & Sport Compound

The B-Force compound bridges the gap between a conventional street replacement pad and a more aggressive competition-focused compound.

Its 0.32–0.45 μ friction coefficient provides effective braking from normal street temperatures while maintaining consistent performance as brake temperatures increase. The broad operating range makes B-Force a practical choice for an AE86 that sees daily street use along with canyon driving, autocross, or occasional light track sessions.

Vehicle Fitment

Toyota Corolla Levin

  • 1983–1987 Toyota Corolla Levin – AE86 – Front

Toyota Sprinter Trueno

  • 1983–1987 Toyota Sprinter Trueno – AE86 – Front

Toyota Corolla Sport SR5

  • 1984–1987 Toyota Corolla Sport SR5 – AE86 – 4A-C – Front

Toyota Corolla Sport GT-S

Fitment Notes

  • Front axle application only
  • Fits both 1984–1987 U.S.-market Corolla Sport SR5 and 1985–1987 Corolla Sport GT-S
  • SR5 and GT-S models use the same front brake pad shape for this application
  • Fits the factory-style AE86 front disc brake pad and caliper configuration
  • GT-S and SR5 rear brake systems differ; this shared fitment applies to the front pads only
  • Vehicles equipped with aftermarket calipers or big-brake conversions require the brake pad shape specified by that brake system

Project Mu TYPE NS vs. B-Force vs. Club Racer RC09

Project Mu offers substantially different compounds for different levels of brake temperature and vehicle use. Choosing the most aggressive pad is not automatically better; the correct compound depends on how the AE86 is actually driven.

TYPE NS B-Force Club Racer RC09
Primary Use Daily / performance street Performance street / spirited / light track Circuit / competition
Rotor Temperature Range 0–400°C 0–500°C 300–800°C
Friction Coefficient 0.37–0.40 μ 0.32–0.42 μ 0.42–0.55 μ
Cold Street Operation Excellent fit for intended use Street capable Not optimized for normal cold street use
Heat Capacity Moderate Higher Highest
Noise / Dust Priority Low noise / low dust focus Street-performance balance Competition performance takes priority
Best For Daily, restoration, canyon Spirited street, autocross, light track Dedicated track / circuit

TYPE NS is the best fit for owners primarily using their AE86 on the street. Its 0°C lower operating threshold and low-dust, low-noise focus make it appropriate for normal driving without requiring significant brake temperature.

B-Force is the step up for a more aggressively driven street car. Its 0–500°C temperature range provides additional thermal headroom while retaining street and light-track usability, making it a strong choice for canyon driving, autocross, and occasional track activity.

Club Racer RC09 is the dedicated circuit option. Its super graphite metallic compound operates across 300–800°C with a 0.42–0.55 μ friction coefficient. That significantly higher operating window makes it appropriate for repeated high-temperature braking on track rather than normal street driving.

Selection Guide

  • Daily Driver / Restoration / Street: TYPE NS
  • Performance Street / Canyon / Autocross: B-Force
  • Circuit / Track Competition: Club Racer RC09

For most street-driven AE86 builds, TYPE NS offers the most street-friendly balance. Drivers who repeatedly generate more brake temperature should move to B-Force, while Club Racer should be reserved for applications that can actually take advantage of its competition-temperature operating range.
