The Project Mu Club Racer RC09 Front Brake Pads are circuit-focused racing brake pads for Toyota AE86 front brake applications. Because its specified operating range begins at 300°C, Club Racer RC09 is not the preferred choice for a primarily street-driven AE86. Project Mu TYPE NS or B-Force provides a more appropriate operating range for cars that spend most or all of their time on public roads.

Circuit-Focused RC09 Compound

Club Racer RC09 is designed around the elevated brake temperatures generated during circuit driving. Unlike street pads that begin their intended operating range from approximately ambient rotor temperatures, RC09 has a specified lower operating threshold of 300°C.

Once brought into its intended temperature window, the super graphite metallic compound is designed to maintain consistent braking performance through rotor temperatures of up to 800°C. This makes it particularly appropriate for repeated high-energy braking during extended track sessions where fade resistance and high-temperature friction consistency take priority over street comfort.

For an AE86 that sees primarily commuting, weekend street use, canyon driving, or occasional autocross, a lower-temperature Project Mu compound will generally be the more appropriate match.

Project Mu TYPE NS vs. B-Force vs. Club Racer RC09

Project Mu offers these compounds for distinctly different levels of brake temperature and vehicle use. The most aggressive compound is not automatically the best choice—the correct pad depends on how much temperature the braking system actually generates.

TYPE NS is the most street-oriented option of the three. Its 0–400°C operating range begins at normal cold temperatures, while its non-steel compound is focused on improving braking performance over standard replacement pads without giving up street-oriented noise and dust characteristics. It is the strongest choice for daily drivers, restorations, and enthusiast street cars.

B-Force provides a more performance-oriented step up for aggressively driven street cars. Its 0–500°C operating range adds thermal headroom for repeated braking while retaining the ability to work from cold temperatures. This makes it a strong middle-ground choice for canyon driving, autocross, spirited street use, and occasional light track activity.

Club Racer RC09 is the dedicated circuit choice. Its 300–800°C temperature window and 0.42–0.55 μ friction coefficient are intended for braking systems that consistently reach motorsport temperatures. It provides considerably more high-temperature capability but sacrifices the broad cold-temperature usability that makes TYPE NS and B-Force better suited to street-driven cars.
