Trail-Gear 6-Stud High Steer Crossover Kit
For 1979–1995 Toyota Pickup & 1985–1995 Toyota 4Runner with Toyota-Style Solid Front Axle and 6-Stud Knuckles
Overview
The Trail-Gear 6-Stud High Steer Crossover Kit provides a heavy-duty crossover steering system for Toyota solid-front-axle builds equipped with Six Shooter-style 6-stud knuckles.
The system uses forged 8620 tool-steel steering arms, heavy-duty .250-inch-wall steering rods, FJ80-style tie rod ends, and a heavy-duty pitman arm. The six-stud mounting pattern adds two steering-arm mounting points per knuckle compared with the factory-style four-stud arrangement.
Configurations are available for Toyota OEM-width, Rock Assault IFS-width (+3"), and Rock Assault Tacoma-width (+5") axle housings, along with left- or right-hand-drive steering and drop or flat pitman arm setups.
Key Features
- 6-stud steering-arm configuration
- Designed for Six Shooter-style 6-stud knuckles
- Forged 8620 tool-steel steering arms
- Heavy-duty .250-inch-wall steering rods
- FJ80-style tie rod ends
- Drop and flat pitman arm configurations
- Left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive configurations
- OEM-width, Rock Assault +3-inch, and Rock Assault +5-inch axle options
- Minimum 3 inches of lift required
- Heavy-duty crossover steering layout for off-road use
Six-Stud Steering Arm Design
The six-stud configuration is designed to work with matching six-stud steering knuckles. The Six Shooter-style knuckle design adds two steering-arm mounting studs per side compared with the factory four-stud layout.
Six-stud knuckles are required and are not included with the high-steer kit.
Axle & Steering Configuration
- Toyota OEM Width – For standard Toyota solid-front-axle width.
- Rock Assault IFS Width (+3") – Uses steering linkage sized for the wider Rock Assault IFS-width housing.
- Rock Assault Tacoma Width (+5") – For Pickup or 4Runner builds using the wider Tacoma-width Rock Assault front housing. “Tacoma Width” refers to axle housing width, not the vehicle model.
Select Left-Hand Drive or Right-Hand Drive according to steering-wheel position. Flat pitman arm configurations require additional steering-box clearance and mounting work compared with drop pitman arm setups.
