KYB Stock Ride Height Rear Shock Absorber

For 1979–1995 Toyota Pickup 2WD with stock-height rear suspension

Overview

Choose the KYB rear shock that best matches how you want your Toyota Pickup to drive. Excel-G uses a nitrogen gas-charged twin-tube design for factory-style ride comfort and control, while Gas-a-Just uses a high-pressure monotube design for firmer response and added stability.

Rear-shock applications differ by model year and, on later trucks, by standard or 1-ton configuration. Select the correct Vehicle Fitment option before choosing ride preference and quantity; these application groups use different shock dimensions and are not interchangeable.

Key Features

  • Two ride preferences: factory-style Excel-G comfort or firmer Gas-a-Just control
  • Stock-height fitment: designed for factory-height rear suspension
  • Application-specific sizing: separate year and truck-class selections match the supported Toyota Pickup 2WD applications
  • Position: rear left or right
  • Quantity choice: order one shock or a matching rear pair
  • Mounting layout: upper eye and lower eye

Vehicle Fitment

Select the option matching your model year and truck class.

Important: 1985–1987 LN-series diesel models are excluded from the Standard / Non-1-Ton selection.

Fitment Notes

  • Vehicle Fitment selection: choose the option matching model year and, where listed, standard/non-1-ton or 1-ton configuration
  • 1985–1987 diesel exclusion: LN-series diesel applications are not included in the Standard / Non-1-Ton option
  • Not for: 4WD Pickup, 4Runner, motorhome chassis, or suspension-converted trucks
  • Axle position: one shock is required per rear side
  • Ride height: designed for stock-height rear suspension; not intended for lifted or lowered trucks
  • Load rating: changing shock style does not increase the truck's rated payload or towing capacity
  • Complete the stock-height suspension refresh with the matching KYB front shock listing.

Which Front Shock Should You Buy?

KYB Excel-G — Best for Factory-Style Comfort & Value

Choose Excel-G when you want an OE-style ride and straightforward value for normal street use.

KYB Gas-a-Just — Best for Firmer Control on a Budget

Choose Gas-a-Just for a firmer monotube response at a lower price point than Bilstein.

Bilstein B6 4600 — Best for Overall Stock-Height Performance

Choose B6 4600 for strong body control, fade-resistant monotube consistency, and balanced everyday ride quality.

Our Recommendation: For most stock-height Toyota Pickup owners, Bilstein B6 4600 is our preferred all-around choice. Choose KYB Excel-G for comfort and value or KYB Gas-a-Just for firmer budget-friendly control.
