EXEDY Performance Clutch Kit

For 1983–1987 Toyota Corolla Levin / Sprinter Trueno AE86 4A-GEU, 1984–1987 Toyota Corolla Sport SR5 AE86 4A-C & 1985–1987 Toyota Corolla Sport GT-S AE86 4A-GE

Overview

The EXEDY Stage 1 and Stage 2 Performance Clutch Kits give Toyota AE86 owners two clutch configurations designed around different driving styles and performance requirements.

Choose Stage 1 Organic for a street-driven, restored, or mildly modified AE86 where smooth engagement and everyday drivability are priorities. Choose Stage 2 Cerametallic for a more aggressive build that regularly sees drifting, autocross, rally, track driving, harder launches, or increased engine output.

Both configurations use a 200 mm single-disc, sprung-hub design with a 21-tooth spline. The main difference is the clutch-disc friction material and engagement characteristics, allowing customers to select the setup that best matches their AE86 build.

Key Features

  • Choice of Stage 1 Organic or Stage 2 Cerametallic
  • 200 mm single-disc clutch configuration
  • 21-tooth / 24.1 mm spline
  • Sprung-hub clutch discs help reduce drivetrain shock
  • Performance pressure plate with approximately 1,212 lb clamp load
  • Stage 1 provides smoother, more progressive engagement
  • Stage 2 provides increased torque capacity and greater resistance to repeated heat
  • Designed for rear-wheel-drive AE86 manual-transmission applications
  • SFI 1.1 certified performance clutch design
  • Flywheel sold separately

Stage 1 vs. Stage 2 – Which Is Best for Your AE86?

Stage 1 Organic Stage 2 Cerametallic
Friction Material Organic / Fiber Cerametallic
Disc Design Full-Face Sprung 3-Puck Thick Sprung
Wheel Torque Capacity Approx. 133 lb-ft Approx. 157 lb-ft
Engagement Smooth & Progressive Faster & More Aggressive
Street Drivability Excellent Moderate
Pedal / Take-Off Feel Closer to Stock More Performance-Oriented
Heat Resistance Increased Higher
Stock / Mild Build Excellent Choice More Than Most Builds Need
Spirited Street Driving Excellent Choice Good
Drift / Autocross Light / Occasional Excellent Choice
Track / Rally Light Use Better Choice
Best For Street & Mild Performance Aggressive Performance

Choose Stage 1 Organic if:

Your AE86 is stock or mildly modified and spends most of its time on the street. Stage 1 provides a more progressive engagement characteristic while increasing clutch capacity over a conventional replacement clutch.

It is the recommended choice for most naturally aspirated 4A-C, 4A-GE, and 4A-GEU street builds, including restored cars, daily drivers, weekend cars, and mildly modified canyon or autocross builds.

Choose Stage 2 Cerametallic if:

Your AE86 regularly sees aggressive driving, drifting, autocross, rally, repeated track use, or increased engine output. The thick cerametallic puck-style disc provides greater torque capacity and improved resistance to repeated heat.

Stage 2 engages more aggressively than Stage 1, so it is better suited to customers who prioritize performance over factory-like clutch behavior.

For most street-driven AE86 builds, Stage 1 is the recommended all-around choice.

For drift, competition, repeated track use, or more aggressively modified builds, Stage 2 is the better choice between these two configurations.
