Overview

The EXEDY Hyper Single Clutch & Flywheel Kit is a high-performance single-disc clutch system designed for modified Toyota AE86 4A-GE applications that need substantially more holding capacity and quicker drivetrain response than a conventional street clutch.

The system combines a 200 mm 6-puck cerametallic sprung clutch disc, forged aluminum clutch cover, high-clamp-load pressure plate, and matched chromoly steel flywheel. EXEDY's low-inertia design reduces rotating mass at the clutch disc and flywheel, improving engine response and allowing quicker shifts while maintaining a sprung center to help reduce drivetrain shock.

With approximately twice the holding torque of an OE-style clutch and substantially greater heat resistance, the Hyper Single is best suited to aggressively modified street cars, drift builds, track cars, time-attack cars, and other motorsport-oriented AE86s that do not yet require a multi-plate clutch.

Low-Inertia Hyper Single Design

The Hyper Single system is engineered as a complete clutch-and-flywheel package rather than simply increasing pressure-plate clamp load on an OE-style assembly.

Its smaller, lighter clutch disc reduces rotational inertia, allowing the transmission synchronizers to match speeds more quickly during shifting. The included chromoly flywheel further reduces rotating mass compared with the factory assembly, producing quicker engine response and a more immediate performance-oriented feel.

The T5001 cerametallic friction material provides a high coefficient of friction along with strong heat resistance and low wear. This allows the 200 mm single-disc system to achieve substantially greater holding capacity while remaining compact.

Because this is a 6-puck cerametallic clutch, engagement is more direct and aggressive than an organic street clutch. It is intended for drivers who prioritize heat resistance, response, and holding capacity over factory-like engagement.

Its 6-puck cerametallic disc, high clamp load, low-inertia construction, and matched chromoly flywheel make it the better choice for aggressively modified 4A-GE builds, serious drift cars, and track-focused AE86s.

For a naturally aspirated street car or mildly modified AE86, the EXEDY Performance Clutch Kit provides less aggressive alternatives. Stage 1 uses a full-face organic disc for smoother everyday engagement, while Stage 2 uses a cerametallic puck-style disc for increased heat resistance and more aggressive performance use.

For an otherwise stock GT-S where factory-like engagement, quiet operation, and everyday drivability are the priorities, the EXEDY OE Replacement Clutch Kit is the most appropriate option.

Choose the OE Replacement clutch for factory-style driving, the Stage 1 or Stage 2 Performance clutch for street and moderate performance builds, and the Hyper Single when low inertia, high heat capacity, and serious motorsport performance are the priority.
