Overview

The ACT HDSS Heavy Duty Performance Street Clutch Kit is a performance clutch upgrade for 1989–1995 3rd Gen Toyota Pickup models equipped with the 2.4L 22R or 22RE 4-cylinder engine and a manual transmission.

The HDSS combines a Heavy Duty pressure plate with a sprung organic Performance Street clutch disc to provide increased holding capacity while retaining smooth, progressive engagement and manageable pedal effort. Depending on the application, the clutch provides 275 or 285 lb-ft of engine torque capacity.

Three vehicle applications are available to make selecting the correct clutch straightforward. The 1989–1992 trucks share one configuration across 2WD and 4WD, while the 1993–1995 applications are separated between 2WD and 4WD.

HDSS Performance Street Design

The HDSS is designed for Toyota Pickup owners who need greater clutch holding capacity without moving to the more abrupt engagement characteristics of a puck-style race clutch.

The Heavy Duty pressure plate increases clamp load, while the sprung organic disc maintains progressive engagement and helps absorb drivetrain shock. This makes the HDSS well suited to daily-driven trucks, restorations, off-road builds, and mildly modified 22R and 22RE engines.
