Prothane Polyurethane Front Sway Bar Bushing Kit – 19mm or 23mm
For 1984–1989 Toyota 4Runner 4WD
Overview
Restore the factory handling, steering response, and cornering stability of your 1984–1989 Toyota 4Runner 4WD with the Prothane Polyurethane Front Sway Bar Bushing Kit. Engineered as a direct-fit replacement for worn factory rubber sway bar bushings, this complete kit delivers improved suspension performance, reduced body roll, and long-lasting durability for both street and off-road driving.
Factory rubber sway bar components gradually deteriorate from age, heat, oil, moisture, road salt, and environmental exposure. As these bushings wear, the sway bar can move excessively, reducing steering precision, increasing body roll, and creating suspension noise. Prothane's premium polyurethane bushings are designed to resist these conditions while maintaining a secure sway bar connection for improved handling and extended service life.
This kit is available for 19mm or 23mm factory front sway bars. Because Toyota installed multiple sway bar diameters throughout production—and many vehicles have been repaired or modified over the years—the only reliable way to select the correct kit is to measure your front sway bar before ordering.

Choosing the Correct Sway Bar Size
This kit is available for 19mm and 23mm factory front sway bars.
Toyota used multiple sway bar diameters throughout production, and many trucks and SUVs have had suspension components replaced over the years. Vehicle year, trim level, engine, or VIN cannot reliably identify the correct sway bar diameter.
The only accurate method is to physically measure your front sway bar before ordering.
Easy Measurement Without Calipers
If digital calipers are unavailable, you can quickly verify your sway bar size using a standard wrench:
- Clean a straight section of the front sway bar.
- Slide a 19mm open-end wrench (or a 3/4-inch wrench) over the sway bar.
- If the wrench fits snugly around the bar, your vehicle has a 19mm sway bar.
- If the wrench will not fit, your vehicle most likely has the 23mm sway bar.
This simple measurement helps ensure you receive the correct kit the first time.
Installation Notes
- Measure your factory front sway bar before ordering.
- Select either the 19mm or 23mm kit based on your measurement.
- Fits factory-style front sway bars only.
- Clean sway bar surfaces before installing new bushings.
- Apply the supplied polyurethane grease to all bushing contact surfaces during installation.
- Inspect sway bar brackets and mounting hardware for wear.
- Professional installation is recommended if suspension components are heavily worn.
Available Bushing Colors
Choose the finish that best complements your build.
