ARB | Old Man Emu 2-Inch Lift Kit Suspension Lift Kit
For 1990–1995 Toyota 4Runner 4WD
Overview
This Old Man Emu suspension kit pairs front torsion bars and rear coil springs with Nitrocharger Plus shocks and a steering damper for 1990–1995 Toyota 4Runner 4WD. It suits owners refreshing tired suspension for daily driving, rough roads and camping travel, with rear spring choices matched to the weight carried most of the time.
The rear coils are raised replacement springs, not stock-height replacements. They can address worn-spring sag, but the final stance depends on the vehicle’s condition and normal load rather than a guaranteed increase over its current height.
Key Features
- Vehicle-specific Nitrocharger Plus damping for the front and rear suspension.
- Heavy-duty twin-tube shocks with high-flow pistons and multi-disc valving.
- Front torsion-bar pair for the independent front suspension and added accessory weight.
- X5K spring-steel rear coils with a black powder-coated finish.
- Steering damper to help control kickback over uneven terrain.
Ride Height & Rear Load
Estimated rear lift is approximately 50 mm (2 inches) at the intended load. Front ride height depends on the torsion-bar suspension’s adjustment; the kit does not provide a fixed two-inch increase at every corner. Shock absorbers control suspension movement and do not create lift.
A heavier spring does not increase the vehicle’s payload, axle or towing ratings.
Vehicle Fitment
Toyota 4Runner — 2nd Gen — 4WD
- 1990–1995: U.S.-market models.
Fitment Notes
- This kit does not fit Toyota Pickup rear leaf-spring suspension.
- Solid-axle conversions, relocated shock mounts and long-travel suspension are outside this application.
- The steering damper does not correct worn steering components or loose suspension parts.

Which Rear Load Rating Should You Choose?
Medium Load — Best for Daily Driving & Occasional Camping Cargo
Choose Medium Load for passengers and changing cargo loads without substantial permanent rear equipment. Occasional trips alone are not a reason to choose the heavier springs.
Heavy Constant Load — Best for Permanent Equipment Weight
Choose Heavy Constant Load for approximately 200 kg (440 lb) of additional rear load carried continuously. Without that weight, the higher-rate coils can sit higher and ride more firmly.
Our Recommendation: Choose Medium Load for normal passenger and cargo use. Choose Heavy Constant Load when permanent rear equipment meets its intended load requirement, not simply to obtain more lift.
