NGK Iridium IX / V-Power Nickel Spark Plug Sets

For 1984–1995 Toyota 4Runner and 1979–1995 Toyota Pickup with applicable 20R / 22R / 22RE / 22R-TE four-cylinder gasoline engines

Overview

Both options are factory pre-gapped to 0.032 in (0.8 mm) for the listed stock Toyota 20R / 22R-family engines. NGK V-Power Nickel and Iridium IX arrive with the same preset electrode gap; iridium technology does not require a different factory preset for these applications.

Each four-plug set fits the 1984–1995 Toyota 4Runner with the listed 22R / 22RE / 22R-TE engines and the 1979–1995 Toyota Pickup with 20R (1979–1980) or 22R / 22RE / 22R-TE (1981–1995). Choose V-Power Nickel for conventional factory-style maintenance or Iridium IX for fine-wire iridium electrode technology and improved resistance to electrode wear.

Key Features

  • Factory pre-gapped — both options: V-Power Nickel and Iridium IX each come preset to 0.032 in (0.8 mm), matching the nominal 0.8 mm factory specification for the supported stock 20R / 22R-family engines.
  • V-Power Nickel: Nickel-alloy V-groove center electrode with a copper core for stock-style ignition maintenance.
  • Iridium IX: Fine-wire iridium center electrode with improved resistance to electrode wear.
  • NGK resistor construction: Corrosion-resistant shell plating and gasket-seat design.
  • Complete four-plug set: One selected set supplies all four spark plugs for a supported four-cylinder engine.

Which Spark Plug Is Right for You?

V-Power Nickel — Best for Affordable Routine Maintenance

Choose V-Power Nickel if you want a dependable, lower-cost plug for everyday driving and regular maintenance. Its conventional nickel-alloy V-groove design makes it a practical factory-style choice for a stock engine.

Iridium IX — Best for Longer Electrode Life

Choose Iridium IX if you want greater resistance to electrode wear and are comfortable paying more upfront. Its fine-wire iridium center electrode is longer-wearing than conventional nickel, while its ground electrode remains nickel alloy.

Prefer DENSO? The DENSO Spark Plug Set for Toyota 4Runner / Pickup offers Standard U-Groove and Iridium TT alternatives. NGK V-Power grooves the center electrode while DENSO U-Groove grooves the ground; DENSO Iridium TT also adds a platinum ground tip compared with the nickel-alloy ground electrode on NGK Iridium IX. Either brand is a quality choice, so personal preference, price, and availability can guide the decision.

Our Recommendation: For most stock-engine owners keeping up with routine maintenance, V-Power Nickel offers the best value. Choose Iridium IX if longer electrode life matters more than the initial cost, or consider the matching DENSO alternatives if you prefer that brand or NGK is unavailable.
