DENSO Spark Plug Set

For 1984–1995 Toyota 4Runner and 1981–1995 Toyota Pickup with 22R, 22RE, or 22R-TE

Overview

DENSO spark plugs provide a direct-fit ignition option for Toyota 22R-series engines, with five electrode technologies available to match different maintenance and performance preferences.

Every configuration is supplied as a complete set of four spark plugs for one 2.4L four-cylinder engine.

Key Features

  • Complete four-plug set for 22R, 22RE, and 22R-TE applications
  • DENSO OE heritage for supported Toyota ignition applications
  • Heat range 16 across all five plug choices
  • 14 mm thread diameter and 19 mm reach across all configurations
  • Gasket / flat-seat design
  • Resistor construction
  • Factory pre-gapped — no routine gap adjustment is required before installation; see the plug-specific preset gaps below

Which Spark Plug Should You Choose?

Choose based on the balance you want between OE-style operation, service life, and ignition performance.

Standard U-Groove — Best for OE-style replacement and value
Choose Standard U-Groove if you want the closest option to a conventional factory-style DENSO plug for a stock 22R-family engine. Its copper-core center electrode and U-Groove ground design provide dependable ignition and strong drivability without paying for a precious-metal electrode. It is supplied factory pre-gapped at 0.8 mm / 0.032 in., matching the Toyota factory spark-plug gap specification for these applications.

Platinum TT — Best everyday upgrade
Choose Platinum TT if you want a step up in durability and ignitability for a daily-driven truck without moving all the way to an iridium plug. DENSO's Twin-Tip design uses a platinum center electrode with a titanium-enhanced ground tip to reduce quenching, support faster starts, and improve combustion efficiency. It is supplied factory pre-gapped at 1.0 mm / 0.040 in.

Double Platinum — Best for extended service life
Choose Double Platinum if your priority is longer maintenance intervals and electrode durability. Platinum is used on both the center and ground electrodes to resist erosion and maintain consistent spark performance over extended use; DENSO rates the design for sustained spark performance beyond 60,000 miles. It is supplied factory pre-gapped at 1.1 mm / 0.044 in.

Iridium Power — Best for performance and throttle response
Choose Iridium Power if ignition performance is the priority. Its ultra-fine 0.4 mm iridium center electrode and tapered U-Groove ground electrode reduce the voltage required to fire the plug and are designed to improve ignitability and acceleration response. It is supplied factory pre-gapped at 1.1 mm / 0.044 in.

Iridium TT — Best premium all-around choice
Choose Iridium TT if you want the strongest overall balance of performance, durability, and efficiency. Its Twin-Tip design combines a 0.4 mm iridium center electrode with a 0.7 mm platinum needle ground electrode to reduce spark obstruction and support efficient combustion. It is supplied factory pre-gapped at 1.0 mm / 0.040 in.

Quick Choice: Want the closest OE-style option? Choose Standard U-Groove. Want an affordable daily-driver upgrade? Choose Platinum TT. Want extended platinum service life? Choose Double Platinum. Want the most performance-focused option? Choose Iridium Power. Want the best overall premium balance? Choose Iridium TT.

Gap Note: All five options are supplied pre-gapped by DENSO. Do not routinely re-gap Platinum TT, Double Platinum, Iridium Power, or Iridium TT plugs. Their fine precious-metal electrodes can be damaged by bending. Inspect each plug for shipping damage before installation and leave the DENSO preset gap intact unless a specific engine setup requires otherwise.
