CUSCO Adjustable Rear Panhard Rod
For 1983–1987 Toyota Corolla Levin / Sprinter Trueno AE86 & 1984–1987 Toyota Corolla Sport SR5 / 1985–1987 Toyota Corolla Sport GT-S AE86
Overview
The CUSCO Adjustable Rear Panhard Rod is a vehicle-specific rear suspension upgrade for the Toyota AE86. Also known as a rear lateral rod, it replaces the factory fixed-length rod with an adjustable steel design that allows the solid rear axle's lateral position to be corrected after changes in ride height.
Lowering an AE86 changes the angle of the factory Panhard rod and can shift the rear axle slightly toward one side of the chassis. The center turnbuckle allows the replacement rod to be lengthened or shortened while installed, making it easier to recenter the axle beneath the vehicle.
This version uses a rubber bushing at the body-side mounting point. The factory rear axle-side rubber bushing is reused or replaced separately with the corresponding OEM bushing.
Key Features
- Adjustable rear Panhard / lateral rod for Toyota AE86 applications
- Steel construction
- Center turnbuckle for convenient length adjustment
- +15 mm to -10 mm overall adjustment range
- Helps correct rear axle position after lowering or other ride-height changes
- Rubber bushing supplied for the body-side mounting point
- Replaces the factory fixed-length rear lateral rod
- Vehicle-specific installation using the factory rear suspension mounting locations
Rear Axle Position Adjustment
The AE86 uses a Panhard rod to locate its solid rear axle laterally beneath the chassis. Because the rod moves through an arc as the suspension travels, changing ride height can alter the resting position of the axle from side to side.
Before installation, the original lateral rod should be measured from mounting-point center to mounting-point center. The adjustable rod can then be set to that measurement as a starting point and fine-tuned with the center turnbuckle.
Although the rod has a +15 mm to -10 mm overall adjustment range, the installed setting should remain within ±10 mm of the measured factory rod length.
