NTK Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

For 1987–1991 Toyota Corolla AE92 coupe equipped with the 4A-GE / 4A-GZE / 4A-FE and the matching original coolant-sensor connector.

Overview

This NTK engine coolant temperature sensor supplies the ECU with the temperature input used to adjust fueling on 1987–1991 Toyota Corolla AE92 coupes with 4A-GE, 4A-GZE or 4A-FE engines. Its thermistor senses coolant temperature for engine management; it is not the dashboard temperature-gauge sender and does not cover carbureted 4A-F models.

The brass-bodied sensor comes in two connector configurations: a wire-clip interface retained by a metal clip or a molded-latch interface retained by a plastic locking tab. The original harness plug's retention style and keyed shape determine the correct option, not color or two-terminal count alone. August 1988 production overlaps both connector types.

Fitment Notes

• August 1988 is a shared transition month. Match the original connector housing, keying and retention style; year, color or two-terminal count alone cannot distinguish these options. A missing or broken wire clip does not turn an early connector into the molded-latch type.
• Does not replace the dashboard gauge sender, cooling-fan switch, cold-start time switch or EGR-temperature sensor.
• Engine swaps, altered wiring or connectors, ECU changes, adapters and replacement sensor housings require configuration-specific fitment confirmation.
• U.S.-market coverage starts with the 1988 GT-S coupe model year; the JDM applications begin in 1987. The U.S. SR5 coupe application is limited to 1990–1991 model years with the fuel-injected 4A-FE.
• No carbureted 4A-F coverage. Match the engine, body and production range; the late GT-S range is stated by production date, not a separate model-year claim.
