NTK Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
For 1985–1987 Toyota Corolla AE86 and 1987–1988 Toyota Corolla AE92 coupe equipped with the original wire-clip coolant-sensor connector.
Overview
The NTK engine coolant temperature sensor supplies the engine ECU with the temperature input used for electronic fuel injection. It fits the 1985–1987 U.S.-market Corolla AE86 GT-S 4A-GE and original wire-clip AE92 sensors: May 1987–August 1988 Japanese Corolla AE92 coupe production with 4A-GE or 4A-GZE, and August 1987–August 1988 U.S.-market GT-S production with 4A-GE. The original wire-retaining-clip connector is essential; the August 1988 change month includes both connector families.
Its negative-temperature-coefficient thermistor reduces resistance as coolant temperature rises, supplying the temperature-dependent input used to adjust fueling.
Key Features
- Brass sensor body with an integral sensing probe
- Two male blade terminals within one rectangular female connector housing
- Threaded mounting with a 19 mm hex
- Standard-replacement design for the original EFI coolant-temperature sensor
Vehicle Fitment
Toyota Corolla — AE86
- 1985–1987: GT-S (U.S.-Market) / 4A-GE
Toyota Corolla — AE92 coupe
- 1987–1988: Corolla Levin / Sprinter Trueno coupe (JDM) / 4A-GE 16V; May 1987–August 1988 production
- 1987–1988: Corolla Levin GT-Z / Sprinter Trueno GT-Z coupe (JDM) / 4A-GZE; May 1987–August 1988 production
- 1988: GT-S coupe (U.S.-Market) / 4A-GE 16V; August 1987–August 1988 production with the original wire-retaining-clip connector
Fitment Notes
- AE92 requires the original wire-retaining-clip sensor connector. Later molded-latch / clip-in connectors are a different application. August 1988 production overlaps both families; the actual original connector controls, not model year, color or two-terminal count alone.
- No blanket all-1988, later AE92, carbureted 4A-F or 4A-FE coverage. Engine swaps, altered harnesses, replacement sensor housings and ECU changes require separate configuration matching.
- Does not replace the dashboard temperature-gauge sender, cooling-fan switch, cold-start injector time switch, or EGR temperature sensor.
