Overview

The NGK Laser Platinum / Iridium IX Spark Plug Set provides two spark-plug options for 4A-GE-powered Toyota Corolla AE86 Trueno, Levin, and U.S.-market GT-S models. Each configuration contains four spark plugs.

Choose Laser Platinum for an OE-spec precious-metal electrode design and long service life, or Iridium IX for its fine-wire iridium center electrode and performance-oriented ignitability.

Both options use NGK heat range 5, M14 x 1.25 thread, 19 mm reach, resistor construction, gasket seat, and a 1.1 mm / 0.044 in. nominal gap.

Which Spark Plug Is Right for You?

Laser Platinum — Best for Stock Engines & Daily Driving

Choose Laser Platinum if you're restoring your AE86 to factory specifications, daily driving, or prioritizing long-term reliability. Its OE-style platinum design offers extended service life and is our recommended choice for most stock 4A-GE engines.

Iridium IX — Best for Performance Enthusiasts

Choose Iridium IX if you prefer a performance-focused spark plug for spirited driving. Its fine-wire iridium center electrode and tapered-cut ground electrode promote strong, consistent ignition. It's a performance-oriented alternative, though not necessarily longer-lasting than Laser Platinum.

Our Recommendation: For most stock or restored AE86s, choose Laser Platinum. For enthusiasts who prioritize fine-wire ignition performance, choose Iridium IX.

Both options share the same heat range, thread size, reach, resistor construction, and nominal gap.

Fitment Notes

• Factory 4A-GE applications only. Does not fit Corolla Sport SR5 models with the factory 4A-C engine.
• U.S.-market GT-S models use a manual transmission; later Japanese-market 4A-GE models were also offered with an automatic transmission.
