Fortune Auto 500 Series Coilovers — OEM / Separate Rear

For 1983–1987 Toyota Corolla AE86 Trueno / Levin, 1985–1987 U.S.-Market Corolla Sport AE86 (GT-S), and 1984–1987 U.S.-Market Corolla Sport AE86 (SR5)

Overview

The Fortune Auto Generation 8 500 Series is a single-adjustable, rebuildable, and modular coilover system developed to balance street comfort with responsive performance. This AE86 version retains the factory-style separate rear spring and damper layout while using complete front coilover assemblies with front spindles included.

Fortune Auto's High Flow Digressive piston design provides strong low-speed damping control to help manage body roll, dive, and squat while remaining more compliant over faster suspension movements such as bumps and surface irregularities. Each set is custom-built and dyno-tested in Richmond, Virginia.

The standard AE86 spring setup is 8 kg/mm front and 6 kg/mm rear. The Front Spring Upgrade (Front Only) selection substitutes the two front springs with Swift or Hyperco springs when selected. The rear springs remain standard Fortune Auto units at 6 kg/mm; this selection does not change the rear spring rate or separate rear layout.

Choosing Your Spring Brand

Front spring upgrade — front only: Swift and Hyperco upgrades replace only the two front springs on this OEM / Separate Rear configuration. Both rear springs remain standard Fortune Auto units at 6 kg/mm, regardless of the front spring brand selected. Spring-brand selection does not change the nominal spring rate.

Default Fortune Auto — Best for a complete Fortune Auto setup and strong value. The standard Fortune Auto springs use premium chrome-silicon spring material and are designed around performance, longevity, and ride quality. This is the straightforward choice for customers who want the complete 500 Series system without paying for an upgraded spring brand.

Swift Springs — Best for street, canyon, and mixed-use drivers prioritizing compliance, response, and usable suspension travel. Swift's proprietary HS5.TW spring alloy allows a given rate to be produced with fewer coils and less spring mass while retaining more usable stroke before coil bind. The material is designed to return to position quickly, helping the tire follow uneven pavement more consistently. At the same nominal spring rate, that combination can produce a smoother, more composed feel over bumps without requiring a softer rate. Swift linear springs are engineered for close rate consistency through their working stroke and strong rate retention over repeated use.

Hyperco Springs — Best for competition-focused builds and drivers prioritizing precise, repeatable spring behavior. Hyperco coilover springs use high-tensile spring material and are engineered for high usable deflection, low spring weight, tight rate linearity, and long-term retention of free length and spring rate. Hyperco has a long motorsports focus and manufactures its springs in the United States. For a track, drift, autocross, or highly setup-sensitive AE86, Hyperco is a strong choice when predictable rate behavior and repeatability are primary priorities.

Which spring brand should you choose? Choose Fortune Auto for the best-value complete system, Swift when ride quality, rough-road grip, lower spring mass, and usable stroke are the priorities, or Hyperco when competition use, rate consistency, repeatability, and American-made spring construction matter most. None of the three brands automatically makes the chosen spring rate softer or stiffer; the rate itself still controls nominal stiffness.

Protection Add-On Guide

The optional protection accessories address two different types of wear. Protective covers shield the outside of the dampers from dirt, moisture, grit, and road debris, while coil spring sleeves help reduce spring-coil contact noise and coating wear. The OEM / Separate Rear setup retains separate rear springs and rear dampers; covers protect the damper assemblies, while sleeves protect the front and rear springs.

Protective Covers — Full Set (4 Covers)

  • Includes (4) 14-inch Fortune Auto protective covers for the front and rear damper assemblies.
  • Fortune Auto's proprietary synthetic blend, zip-lock closure, and felt line guides provide external shielding.
  • Helps limit contamination and corrosion around exposed shock components, threads, and adjustment areas, particularly on cars driven in rain, dust, and road grime.
  • On the OEM / Separate Rear layout, the rear springs are separate from the rear dampers and are not enclosed by the damper covers.

Coil Spring Sleeves — Full Set (8 Sleeves)

  • Includes (8) adhesive-lined sleeves — two per spring across all four springs.
  • Works with Fortune Auto, Swift, and Hyperco spring configurations.
  • Helps reduce coil-to-coil contact, suspension NVH, and unnecessary wear to the spring coating.
  • Provides spring-contact protection for both front and rear springs, independently of the spring brand selected for the front.

Protective Covers + Coil Spring Sleeves — Full Set (4 Covers + 8 Sleeves)

  • Includes (4) 14-inch protective covers and (8) adhesive-lined coil spring sleeves.
  • Combines external damper protection with coil-contact noise and coating protection at all four springs.
  • A complete optional protection package for owners who regularly drive their AE86 and want to help keep its suspension components cleaner and in better condition over time.

None means no additional protection accessories. The coilover kit remains functional without optional covers or sleeves.
