Overview
The Prothane Complete Polyurethane Suspension Bushing Kit is a comprehensive chassis and suspension refresh for the 1984–1988 1st Gen Toyota 4Runner 4WD. It replaces many of the commonly worn factory rubber bushings with firmer polyurethane components designed to reduce unwanted suspension movement and provide longer service life.
This Total Kit is designed to support both front-suspension configurations used during these years. 1984–1985 solid-front-axle models use leaf-spring and torque-arm components, while 1986–1988 IFS models use front control-arm components. The kit also includes rear leaf-spring bushings, body mounts, sway-bar bushings, and tie-rod dust boots. Prothane specifically identifies this Total Kit for 1984–1988 4Runner 4WD applications with both leaf- and control-arm front suspensions.
Available in black or red polyurethane, both color options provide the same functional performance.

Solid Axle & IFS Suspension Compatibility
Toyota used two different front suspension designs across the supported year range.
1984–1985 Toyota 4Runner
These models use a solid front axle with leaf springs. The supplied front spring-eye, shackle, and front axle torque-arm bushings are used for this configuration.
1986–1988 Toyota 4Runner
These models use independent front suspension (IFS). The supplied front control-arm bushings are used for this configuration.
Because the Total Kit is packaged to support both front suspension designs, some included components will not be used on every model year.
