Overview

The Fidanza 9.5 lb Aluminum Flywheel is a lightweight performance flywheel for Toyota 20R and 22R-series manual-transmission applications. Its reduced rotating mass allows engine speed to rise and fall more quickly than with a heavier factory-style flywheel, improving throttle response and rev-matching feel.

The flywheel uses a 6061-T6 aluminum body, a replaceable 1045 steel friction surface, and a heat-treated steel starter ring gear. This serviceable construction combines low rotational inertia with durable steel contact surfaces at the clutch and starter interfaces.

Lightweight Flywheel Characteristics

A lighter flywheel lets the engine change RPM more quickly, which can improve throttle response and make rev matching more responsive during spirited street driving and performance use.

Because a lightweight flywheel stores less rotational energy than a heavier factory flywheel, RPM also drops more quickly between shifts and low-speed clutch engagement may require slightly more throttle. This tradeoff should be considered for vehicles used primarily for crawling, heavy-load operation, or other situations where additional flywheel inertia is desirable.
