Overview

The CUSCO D1 8-Point Chromoly Roll Cage is a vehicle-specific chassis and safety upgrade for left-hand-drive Toyota Corolla Sport SR5 and GT-S AE86 models. This configuration is designed specifically for non-sunroof LHD cars and uses an 8-point, 2-passenger layout for performance-oriented street, drift, circuit, and motorsport builds.

The front section uses an around-dashboard / dash-escape design, routing the cage around the dashboard rather than through it. Straight rear side bars complete the 2-passenger layout, providing a more extensive chassis structure than CUSCO's lower-point cage configurations.

CUSCO's D1 construction uses 40 mm OD chromoly tubing with a 1.6 mm wall thickness and a Blue Metallic finish. The chromoly design is approximately 33% lighter than a comparable steel CUSCO roll cage, reducing unnecessary weight while increasing structural reinforcement.

D1 Chromoly Construction

The D1 series uses chromoly tubing rather than the heavier carbon-steel tubing used in CUSCO's Safety21 line. The 40 mm OD, 1.6 mm-wall chromoly construction reduces weight while maintaining the rigidity required from a multi-point chassis reinforcement system.

The 8-point layout provides additional structural connections compared with 6-point and 7-point configurations, making it particularly suitable for AE86 builds where increased chassis rigidity and a comprehensive interior cage structure are priorities.

The dash-escape front layout also avoids routing the main front cage tubes directly through the dashboard, simplifying the dashboard relationship compared with a dash-through competition-style configuration.
