Overview

The ARP High Performance Connecting Rod Bolt Kit is a heavy-duty fastener upgrade for 1983–1987 JDM Corolla AE86 Trueno / Levin, 1985–1987 U.S.-Market Corolla Sport GT-S, 1984–1987 U.S.-Market Corolla Sport SR5, 1984–1989 Toyota MR2 AW11, and 1988–1991 U.S.-Market Corolla AE92 GT-S / SR5. It fits their supported original 4A-GE, 4A-GZE, 4A-C, 4A-F and 4A-FE connecting rods, not every aftermarket rod sold for those engines.

The complete eight-bolt set services four connecting rods and includes matching fastening nuts and ARP Ultra-Torque assembly lubricant. Heat-treated 8740 chromoly steel and a large under-head radius provide increased fastener strength for stock rebuilds and performance engine builds.

Connecting-rod resizing is required after changing the bolts. The rod's bolt-hole chamfer must accommodate the fastener's under-head radius.

Connecting Rod Fastener Choice

These bolts suit rebuilds that retain the supported original-style connecting rods. They are a press-fit fastener upgrade, not a replacement connecting-rod set. Aftermarket rods may use a different bolt design, diameter or fastening arrangement and require their own specified hardware.

Connecting-rod machine work is required for this upgrade. A shared bolt does not make different rods, pistons or crankshafts interchangeable.

Fitment Notes

• For the specified factory-style connecting rods accepting M9 press-fit bolts. Engine identity alone does not establish compatibility with aftermarket rods.
• Connecting rods must be resized after the new bolts are fitted.
• The bolt-hole chamfer must clear the larger under-head radius. Proper connecting-rod machine work is part of this upgrade.
• Different original rod and crankshaft configurations can share this bolt interface without making those larger components interchangeable.
