Overview
The ARP High Performance Connecting Rod Bolt Kit is a heavy-duty fastener upgrade for Toyota 1.6L 4A-GE engines using M9 connecting rod bolts. Manufactured from premium 8740 chromoly steel, these bolts are designed for increased strength and durability compared with original production rod fasteners.
This complete eight-bolt kit services all four connecting rods and is well suited to 4A-GE engine rebuilds, refreshed factory engines, and performance builds where dependable connecting-rod clamping is especially important.
Installation requires the bolts to be press-fitted into the connecting rods. The connecting rods must be resized after the new bolts are installed.

Installation Requirements
These connecting rod bolts use a press-fit installation and should be installed as part of proper connecting-rod machine work.
The preferred tightening method is to measure bolt stretch to .0050–.0055 inch using a connecting-rod bolt stretch gauge.
When a stretch gauge is unavailable, the fasteners can be tightened to 40 ft-lb using ARP Ultra-Torque Fastener Assembly Lubricant.
After installation of the new rod bolts, the connecting rods must be resized. Because correct rod bore geometry and fastener preload are critical to engine durability, professional connecting-rod machining and engine assembly are recommended.
