ARB Old Man Emu Rear Coil Spring Pair
For 1990–1995 Toyota 4Runner
Overview
The ARB Old Man Emu rear coil spring pair offers your 1990–1995 Toyota 4Runner a load-matched way to address rear sag from tired original springs and support passenger, camping and equipment loads. These are raised replacement springs, not stock-height replacements, so correcting a low rear stance can also leave the vehicle higher than its original ride height.
Choose Medium Load for normal passenger and cargo use without substantial permanent rear equipment, or Heavy Constant Load for sustained added weight. Both use X5K spring steel with a black powder-coated finish; the higher-rate heavy springs are not simply a taller option for a lightly loaded vehicle.
Key Features
- Sold as a pair for the rear axle
- Two spring rates to match the vehicle's normal carried load
- X5K spring steel construction
- Double-scragged coils to reduce spring stress
- Black powder-coated finish for corrosion protection
Vehicle Fitment
Toyota 4Runner — 2nd Gen — U.S.-Market
- 1990–1991: 2.4L 22RE, 2WD, automatic
- 1990–1995: 3.0L 3VZ-E, 2WD, automatic
- 1990–1993: 2.4L 22RE, 4WD, manual or automatic
- 1994–1995: 2.4L 22RE, 4WD, manual
- 1990–1995: 3.0L 3VZ-E, 4WD, manual or automatic
Engine and transmission do not change the spring choice; normal rear load does.
Important: Not for 1984–1989 4Runner rear leaf-spring suspension, 1996-and-later 4Runner models, or Toyota Pickup rear leaf-spring applications.
Fitment Notes
- Estimated rear lift is approximately 50 mm (2 inches) at the intended load. Actual height varies with vehicle condition, accessories and carried weight; this is not a guaranteed lift measurement.
- Heavy Constant Load is intended for a constant rear load of approximately 200 kg (440 lb). It can sit higher and ride more firmly when that weight is absent.
- A higher spring load rating does not increase the vehicle's payload, axle or towing ratings.
- Modified axles, spring seats or non-original rear suspension require separate compatibility confirmation.
- Rear shocks must suit the resulting suspension height and travel. For 1990–1995 4Runner 4WD, the Old Man Emu Nitrocharger Plus rear shocks provide the matching OME damping option.

Which Rear Load Rating Should You Choose?
Medium Load — Best for Daily Driving & Occasional Camping Cargo
Choose Medium Load if you want to address worn-spring rear sag and carry passengers or camping supplies without substantial permanent rear equipment. It is the lower-rate choice for varying loads; occasional trips alone are not a reason to choose the heavier springs.
Heavy Constant Load — Best for Permanent Equipment Weight
Choose Heavy Constant Load if your 4Runner routinely carries approximately 200 kg (440 lb) of added rear equipment and load, because its higher spring rate supports that sustained weight. Without that load, it can sit higher and ride more firmly.
Our Recommendation: Choose Medium Load for normal passenger and cargo use without heavy permanent equipment, and Heavy Constant Load when the everyday rear load meets its intended requirement. Match the springs to the weight carried most of the time, not simply the amount of sag or lift you want.
