Overview

The ARB Differential Breather Kit is a centralized drivetrain breather system designed to relocate differential, transmission, and transfer-case breathers to a higher, cleaner location. This helps reduce the risk of water, dust, mud, and other contaminants entering drivetrain housings during water crossings, off-road driving, and dusty conditions.

The system uses an anodized billet-aluminum manifold with four drivetrain breather ports and a high-flow filtered breather. Its zero-back-pressure, zero-vacuum design allows connected drivetrain assemblies to equalize pressure as operating temperatures change.

The kit includes enough tubing and fittings to connect at least two drivetrain assemblies and can be expanded to as many as four with additional tubing and fittings. It is a universal system and works well for custom breather relocation on classic Toyota 4WD platforms.

Drivetrain Breather Design

Differentials, transmissions, and transfer cases experience internal pressure changes as their operating temperatures rise and fall. Factory breathers allow this pressure to equalize, but low-mounted or one-way breather designs can leave drivetrain assemblies more vulnerable during water crossings and harsh off-road conditions.

The ARB system routes compatible drivetrain breathers to a central manifold positioned above expected water levels. A high-flow air filter allows the connected components to breathe while helping prevent dirt, dust, and water from entering through the relocated breather system.

The kit uses 8 mm tubing, providing additional internal area compared with smaller breather lines. This is particularly useful in off-camber 4WD conditions where gear oil can enter a breather line and restrict airflow.

• Factory hose-barb breathers may allow the supplied tubing to be connected directly when properly secured.

• Modified axles, transmission swaps, transfer-case conversions, and other drivetrain changes may require different fittings or routing.

• Keep breather tubing away from exhaust components, turbochargers, radiators, and other high-heat areas.
