Overview

The AISIN Engine Timing Cover Assembly is an OE-manufacturer replacement for the later Toyota 22R / 22RE front-engine timing cover. Its die-cast construction provides the factory-style sealing, mounting, and timing-chain enclosure required by the later single-row timing system.

The 08/1984 production boundary is critical. Earlier 1984 22R engines use a different front-cover and timing configuration, so 1984 vehicles must be verified by production date before ordering. An optional configuration adds AISIN black FIPG gasket sealant for the specified sealing surfaces encountered during timing-cover installation.

Later Single-Row Timing Cover

This cover fits the later single-row timing-chain arrangement used from 08/1984 production forward on the 22R / 22RE applications listed below. Earlier dual-row timing setups require a different timing cover.

Fitment Notes

  • 1984 vehicles must be built 08/1984 or later.
  • 22R / 22RE gasoline applications only.
  • Does not fit earlier dual-row timing-chain front-cover configurations.
  • Does not fit 2L / 2L-T diesel or 3.0L 3VZ-E V6 applications.
  • Water pump and oil pump are not included.
  • The optional black FIPG sealant is intended for the specified sealing surfaces used during timing-cover installation; follow the applicable Toyota service procedure for bead placement and cure time.
  • For engine-swapped or converted vehicles, verify the installed timing-chain and front-cover configuration before ordering.
