Prothane Polyurethane Rear Sway Bar Bushing Kit – 14mm or 16mm
For 1983–1987 Toyota Corolla AE86 Trueno & Levin SR5, GTS and All JDM Trims
Overview
Restore the handling characteristics of your AE86 with the Prothane Polyurethane Rear Sway Bar Bushing Kit. Designed as a direct replacement for worn factory rubber bushings, this kit helps reduce unwanted sway bar movement, improve rear suspension stability, and deliver more consistent handling during spirited driving and everyday use.
Manufactured in the USA from premium Prothane polyurethane, these bushings are engineered to resist compression, oil, grease, road salt, moisture, ozone, and UV exposure. Compared to aging rubber bushings, polyurethane maintains its shape under load, providing improved sway bar performance and a longer service life.
This kit is available for 14mm or 16mm factory-style rear sway bars found on 1983–1987 Toyota Corolla AE86 models. Since many vehicles have been modified over the years, always measure your rear sway bar diameter before ordering to ensure proper fitment.

Measure Before Ordering
This kit fits either a 14mm or 16mm rear sway bar, depending on the option selected.
Because many AE86s have received suspension upgrades or replacement components over the years, vehicle year, trim level, or VIN should not be used as the only method of determining sway bar size.
Measuring With Calipers
- Clean a straight section of the rear sway bar.
- Measure the outside diameter using digital calipers.
- Select the option that matches your measurement (14mm or 16mm).
Measuring Without Calipers
- Clean a straight section of the sway bar.
- Slide a 14mm open-end wrench over the bar.
- A snug fit indicates approximately a 14mm sway bar.
- If the wrench does not fit or there is noticeable clearance, measure further to determine if your vehicle has a 16mm sway bar.
Do not measure over bends, mounting sleeves, heavy rust, paint buildup, or damaged areas.
Installation Notes
- Fits factory-style 14mm or 16mm rear sway bars only
- Measure the sway bar before ordering
- Clean all mounting surfaces before installation
- Remove rust, dirt, and deteriorated rubber residue
- Apply the supplied polyurethane grease to the recommended contact surfaces
- Inspect sway bar brackets, end links, sleeves, and mounting hardware
- Replace damaged or excessively worn hardware as necessary
- Tighten all fasteners according to the Toyota Factory Service Manual
- Professional installation is recommended if suspension hardware is seized or heavily corroded
Available Bushing Colors
Black Polyurethane
Provides a clean, factory-inspired appearance that blends seamlessly with OEM suspension components.
Red Polyurethane
Features Prothane's signature performance appearance for enthusiasts who prefer a more noticeable suspension upgrade.
Both colors are manufactured from the same premium polyurethane compound and provide identical fitment, durability, handling performance, and resistance to oil, chemicals, moisture, ozone, and UV exposure. The only difference is color.
