Overview

The HKS Sport Muffler Exhaust System is a vehicle-specific performance exhaust designed for the classic rear-wheel-drive Toyota AE86 chassis. Its street-oriented design provides a sportier exhaust note and reduced exhaust restriction while maintaining a more restrained sound level than more aggressive performance exhaust systems.

The two-piece system combines a 60 mm center pipe, 83 mm exhaust tip, S409 stainless steel construction, and an over-differential layout engineered around the AE86 rear chassis. The system is rated at 92 dB close-proximity compared with an 85 dB stock reference.

Exhaust Design & Sound

The center pipe passes above the rear differential before connecting to the main muffler and 83 mm outlet. This over-differential layout keeps the exhaust routed closely to the original AE86 chassis configuration.

The street-oriented Sport / Legal design delivers a sporty but controlled sound profile with reduced exhaust restriction compared with the factory muffler. Minimum exhaust-to-road clearance is approximately 150 mm on the stock-suspension reference configuration.

Fitment Notes

• SR5 4A-C fitment requires a GT-S-style catalytic converter or GT-S-length test pipe.
• The factory SR5 catalytic converter and SR5-length test-pipe section are shorter than the GT-S-style section, so the stock-length SR5 upstream section does not reach the exhaust inlet correctly.
• The required GT-S-style catalytic converter or test pipe is not included with the exhaust.
• The exhaust uses an over-differential layout.
• Lowered vehicles have reduced exhaust-to-ground and axle clearance compared with the stock-suspension reference configuration.

HKS Sport Muffler vs. HKS Hi-Power 409

Both systems use 60mm piping and an over-differential AE86 layout, but they differ primarily in sound level and exhaust-tip size.

Choose the HKS Sport Muffler for a quieter, more understated street-oriented setup. Choose the HKS Hi-Power 409 for a larger exhaust tip, louder exhaust note, and more aggressive performance-exhaust appearance.
