Total Chaos Heim Joint Tie Rod Steering Upgrade Kit
For 1986–1995 Toyota 4Runner & Toyota Pickup 4WD with Total Chaos Long Travel Suspension
Overview
The Total Chaos Heim Joint Tie Rod Steering Upgrade Kit is designed specifically for 1986–1995 Toyota 4Runner and Pickup 4WD models equipped with Total Chaos long travel front suspension systems.
Increasing suspension width and wheel travel places additional demands on the factory steering linkage. This kit replaces the OEM inner and outer tie rod ends with extended 4130 chromoly tie rods and 3/4-inch heim joints, providing the range of articulation and steering strength required for Total Chaos long travel geometry.
A weld-on double-shear steering arm gusset reinforces the steering connection and helps reduce flex under demanding off-road loads. This is a dedicated long travel steering system and is not intended for factory-width suspension or non-Total Chaos long travel kits.

- High-angle heim joints provide increased steering articulation
- Zinc-plated chromoly tie rods for corrosion resistance
- Weld-on double-shear steering arm gusset reinforces the steering connection
- High-misalignment spacers support increased joint articulation
- Grade 8 mounting hardware included
- Complete driver- and passenger-side steering upgrade
Heim Joint Steering Design
The factory inner and outer tie rod ends are replaced with high-strength heim joints engineered to operate through the increased range of motion created by Total Chaos long travel suspension.
The system uses extended 4130 chromoly tie rods and 3/4-inch chromoly heims to provide the additional length, articulation, and strength required by the wider suspension geometry. Left- and right-hand threaded joints allow steering adjustment without removing the tie rods.
A laser-cut weld-on gusset converts the steering-arm mounting point to a reinforced double-shear configuration, improving support around the heim joint connection during aggressive off-road use.
