DFC 15/16-Inch Rear Brake Wheel Cylinder

For 1979–1984, 1986 & 1989–1995 Toyota Pickup 2WD Heavy-Duty Brake Applications

Overview

The DFC Rear Brake Wheel Cylinder is an OE-style hydraulic replacement for specific Toyota Pickup 2WD rear drum brake systems using the larger 0.938-inch (approximately 15/16-inch) bore configuration.

Fitment changes by year and brake package. This cylinder is used on 1979–1984 3/4-ton Pickups, the 1986 1/2-ton RN70 chassis, and 1989–1995 2WD Pickups equipped with F18Q front brake calipers.

For 1989–1995 trucks, Toyota used both 17S and F18Q front brake packages. The front caliper casting or rotor diameter should be checked before ordering to determine which rear wheel cylinder the truck requires.

Key Features

  • OE-style replacement rear brake wheel cylinder
  • 0.938-inch / approximately 15/16-inch bore
  • Fits applicable Toyota Pickup 2WD heavy-duty brake configurations
  • Fits driver- or passenger-side rear position
  • Two-piston internal design
  • Two-bolt mounting configuration
  • Inverted-flare hydraulic connection
  • Bleeder screw included
  • Vehicle-specific direct-fit installation
  • 100% pressure-tested design

Brake Configuration by Year

1979–1983

  • Fits 3/4-ton 2WD Toyota Pickup applications

1984

  • Fits 3/4-ton 2WD Toyota Pickup applications

1986

  • Fits 1/2-ton 2WD RN70 chassis applications

1989–1995

  • Fits 2WD trucks equipped with the F18Q front brake package
  • Trucks equipped with 17S front calipers use a different, smaller-bore rear wheel cylinder

This cylinder is not a universal 1979–1995 2WD Pickup wheel cylinder. Fitment must match the payload/chassis or brake configuration listed above.

How to Identify F18Q vs. 17S Brakes

For 1989–1995 Toyota Pickup 2WD models, the correct rear wheel cylinder depends on the installed front brake package.

The most reliable identification method is the casting code on the front brake caliper.

  1. Look through the front wheel toward the brake caliper. Remove the wheel if necessary.
  2. Locate the raised casting identification on the caliper body.
  3. Clean away dirt, brake dust, or corrosion if the marking is difficult to read.
  4. Look for either F18Q or 17S.

F18Q Brake Package

  • Front caliper marked F18Q
  • Uses approximately 254 mm front brake rotors
  • Uses the larger-bore rear wheel cylinder covered by this listing

17S Brake Package

  • Front caliper marked 17S
  • Uses approximately 248 mm front brake rotors
  • Uses a different, smaller-bore rear wheel cylinder

If the caliper casting cannot be read, measuring the front rotor diameter provides a secondary identification method:

  • Approximately 254 mm rotor = F18Q
  • Approximately 248 mm rotor = 17S

Because brake components may have been replaced during the truck's life, verify the installed caliper casting or rotor diameter rather than relying solely on model year, engine, cab style, or trim.

Vehicle Fitment

Toyota Pickup

  • 1979–1983 Toyota Pickup – 1st Gen – 2WD – 3/4-Ton – Rear
  • 1984 Toyota Pickup – 2nd Gen – 2WD – 3/4-Ton – Rear
  • 1986 Toyota Pickup – 2nd Gen – 2WD – 1/2-Ton – RN70 Chassis – Rear
  • 1989–1995 Toyota Pickup – 3rd Gen – 2WD – F18Q Front Brake Package – Rear

Fitment Notes

  • Rear application only
  • Fits either driver- or passenger-side rear position
  • 1979–1984 applications require the 3/4-ton configuration
  • 1986 application requires the RN70 1/2-ton chassis
  • 1989–1995 applications require F18Q front brake calipers
  • F18Q applications use approximately 254 mm front rotors
  • Does not replace the smaller rear wheel cylinder used with 17S brakes
  • 17S applications use approximately 248 mm front rotors
  • No confirmed application for 1985 or 1987–1988 within this fitment group
  • Replacing both rear wheel cylinders together is recommended when servicing both rear drum brakes
