DFC Front Brake Hardware Kit 2WD

For 1979–1995 Toyota Pickup 2WD Standard Front Brake Applications

Overview

The DFC Front Brake Hardware Kit provides application-specific replacement hardware for the front disc brakes on standard 2WD Toyota Pickups from 1979 through 1995. It is designed for use during front brake pad replacement, restoration, or routine brake service when the original installation hardware is worn, corroded, damaged, or missing.

Toyota used several front brake configurations throughout this production range. The 1979–1988 applications are separated primarily by model year, while 1989–1995 2WD Pickups can use either a 17S or F-18Q front caliper during the same model years. For those later trucks, the existing caliper must be identified before selecting the correct configuration.

This listing is for standard 2WD Pickup brake applications. 1-ton and cab-and-chassis trucks use a separate front brake hardware kit.

Key Features

  • Application-specific front disc brake hardware

  • Designed for standard Toyota Pickup 2WD / RWD brake systems

  • Covers 1st Gen, 2nd Gen, and 3rd Gen Toyota Pickup applications

  • Replaces worn, corroded, damaged, or missing front brake hardware

  • Suitable for brake pad replacement and general front brake service

  • Separate configurations for changes in Toyota front brake design

  • 1989–1995 options available for both 17S and F-18Q calipers

  • Vehicle-specific replacement fitment

How to Identify 17S vs. F-18Q Front Calipers

1989–1995 Toyota Pickup 2WD models can use either a 17S or F-18Q front brake caliper. Both systems were used during overlapping model years, so the correct brake hardware cannot be determined from the truck's year alone.

The best way to identify the brake system is to inspect the casting identification directly on the existing front caliper.

17S Caliper

  • Look for 17S or F17S cast into the caliper housing

  • Typically paired with an approximately 248 mm / 9.76-inch front rotor

F-18Q Caliper

  • Look for F18Q cast into the caliper housing

  • Typically paired with an approximately 254 mm / 10-inch front rotor

Safely support the vehicle and remove the front wheel if necessary to obtain a clear view of the caliper body. The identification is cast directly into the metal housing and may need to be cleaned if covered by dirt, corrosion, or paint.

Do not select the 1989–1995 hardware based only on year, engine, trim, cab style, or bed length. These trucks are also old enough that brake components may have been changed during previous repairs. Verify the actual caliper installed on the vehicle before ordering.

Rotor diameter can be used as a secondary check when the casting is difficult to read. If the vehicle's brake history is unknown, inspect both front calipers to confirm that the same brake system is installed on both sides.

Vehicle Fitment

Toyota Pickup

  • 1979–1983 Toyota Pickup – 1st Gen – 2WD/RWD – 1/2-Ton & 3/4-Ton – Front

  • 1984–1988 Toyota Pickup – 2nd Gen – 2WD/RWD – 1/2-Ton & 3/4-Ton – Front

  • 1989–1995 Toyota Pickup – 3rd Gen – 2WD/RWD – 17S Front Caliper

  • 1989–1995 Toyota Pickup – 3rd Gen – 2WD/RWD – F-18Q Front Caliper

Fitment Notes

  • Front application only

  • 2WD / RWD models only

  • Does not fit 4WD models

  • Does not fit 1-ton or cab-and-chassis applications

  • 1989–1995 trucks require identification of the existing front caliper before ordering

  • Both 17S and F-18Q brake systems were used during overlapping 1989–1995 model years

  • Check the caliper casting rather than relying on model year alone

  • 17S/F17S calipers use the smaller approximately 248 mm rotor configuration

  • F18Q calipers use the larger approximately 254 mm rotor configuration
