Overview
The CSF Heavy-Duty 3-Row All-Metal Radiator is an upgraded cooling solution for 1989–1995 3rd Gen Toyota Pickup 4WD models. Engine-specific configurations are available for the 2.4L 22R / 22RE 4-cylinder and 3.0L 3VZ-E V6.
Both configurations use a three-row copper core with brass tanks, providing durable all-metal construction and additional cooling capacity compared with the common factory-style 2-row radiator. The three-row design—commonly referred to as a 3-core radiator—is well suited to stock trucks, restorations, hot climates, towing, off-road use, larger tires, added vehicle weight, and modified vehicles.
This is a heavy-duty 3-row upgrade rather than an exact stock-replacement radiator. Preserve Rad recommends stepping up to a quality 3-row radiator when replacing the cooling system on a classic Toyota Pickup or 4Runner whenever the correct application is available. Because the larger core does not duplicate every original radiator and fan-shroud configuration exactly, minor installation modifications may be required.

Heavy-Duty 3-Row Upgrade
Many Toyota Pickups from this era used a thinner 2-row radiator configuration from the factory. A properly functioning 2-row radiator can adequately cool a stock vehicle under normal conditions, but upgrading to a heavy-duty 3-row radiator provides additional heat-exchange surface and greater cooling reserve.

For owners already replacing an aging radiator, Preserve Rad recommends installing the heavy-duty 3-row configuration rather than another basic 2-row replacement when the correct application is available. This is an upgrade we consider worthwhile even for many otherwise stock Toyota Pickups and 4Runners.
Some Toyota trucks were equipped with heavier-duty cooling configurations from the factory, so original radiator construction can vary. The important distinction is that this CSF radiator should be treated as a heavy-duty cooling upgrade rather than an exact reproduction of every factory radiator.
Material & Construction
Both configurations use traditional copper-and-brass construction with single-piece brass tanks, a three-row copper core, coated steel side channels, and reinforced hose connections.
Copper/brass construction offers an important advantage for long-term ownership of a classic Toyota. A properly equipped radiator shop can often solder, repair, or recore a copper/brass radiator rather than requiring replacement of the entire assembly after minor damage.
The 2.4L and 3.0L applications use different core dimensions to match their respective cooling-system layouts. An integrated transmission cooler is included for applications utilizing radiator-based automatic-transmission cooling.

The primary disadvantages of the CSF are its additional weight compared with aluminum and the possibility that the thicker heavy-duty configuration may require minor fan-shroud or mounting adjustments.
Choose the Koyorad HH if you have a naturally aspirated 22R or 22RE with a manual transmission and specifically want a lightweight, all-aluminum performance radiator.
The Koyorad HH uses a 48 mm high-density aluminum core and is designed around the factory mounting and fan-shroud arrangement for its supported application. This makes it an excellent choice for a performance-oriented 22R/22RE manual truck where reduced weight, aluminum construction, and straightforward factory-shroud integration are priorities.
The Koyorad HH is not the appropriate choice for the 3VZ-E V6 or an automatic-transmission truck requiring an integrated transmission cooler.
It is also important not to compare these radiators solely by row count. The CSF achieves its cooling capacity with a traditional three-row copper/brass core, while the Koyorad uses a thick, high-density 48 mm aluminum core. They use different approaches to achieve increased cooling performance.
For most stock, restored, daily-driven, off-road, towing, or utility-oriented Toyota Pickups, choose the CSF 3-Row. For a naturally aspirated 22R/22RE manual truck where reduced weight and an all-aluminum performance radiator are higher priorities, choose the Koyorad HH.
