ARB | OME Heavy-Duty Front Torsion Bars

For 1986–1995 4WD Toyota 4Runner & 1986–1995 4WD Toyota Pickup (IFS Models)

Overview

The ARB Old Man Emu Heavy-Duty Front Torsion Bars are a premium suspension upgrade designed for 1986–1995 Toyota 4Runner and Toyota Pickup models equipped with 4WD Independent Front Suspension (IFS). Engineered to provide increased front-end support, improved ride height retention, enhanced suspension control, and greater load-carrying capability, these torsion bars are ideal for vehicles equipped with steel bumpers, winches, skid plates, recovery gear, overland equipment, and other front-end accessories.

Unlike aging factory torsion bars that lose spring rate over time, Old Man Emu torsion bars are engineered to maintain consistent suspension performance while improving handling, stability, and ride quality both on and off-road.

Developed as part of the complete Old Man Emu suspension system, these torsion bars provide a balanced solution for daily driving, towing, overlanding, restoration projects, and off-road use.

Two Ways to Use OME Torsion Bars

Factory Ride Height Replacement

For owners looking to replace worn factory torsion bars while maintaining a stock appearance, OME torsion bars offer a significant improvement in suspension performance without lifting the vehicle.

Benefits include:

  • Improved front suspension support

  • Reduced body roll during cornering

  • Reduced brake dive under hard braking

  • Improved steering feel

  • Better control with added front-end weight

  • Maintains factory ride height

This configuration is ideal for restorations, daily drivers, and vehicles carrying moderate additional weight such as winches or steel bumpers.

Approximately 2 Inches of Front Lift

For customers installing lifted OME rear leaf springs or looking to fit larger tires, OME torsion bars are specifically engineered to perform properly when adjusted for additional ride height.

Benefits include:

  • Approximately 2 inches of front lift capability

  • Better ride quality than heavily cranked factory torsion bars

  • Improved wheel travel retention

  • Increased suspension control

  • Better support for larger tires and off-road use

  • Maintains suspension performance under load

Unlike factory torsion bars that become overly stiff when adjusted upward, OME torsion bars are engineered with an increased spring rate designed to function correctly at elevated ride heights.

Improved Front Suspension Performance

Old Man Emu torsion bars are engineered to increase front suspension support while maintaining predictable ride characteristics.

Performance Benefits

  • Increased front suspension spring rate

  • Improved ride height retention

  • Reduced front-end sag

  • Better support for added vehicle weight

  • Improved steering response

  • Enhanced vehicle stability

  • Increased resistance to suspension bottoming

These improvements are particularly noticeable on vehicles equipped with bumpers, winches, armor, and recovery equipment.

Heavy-Duty Spring Steel Construction

Manufactured from premium-grade spring steel, OME torsion bars are designed to deliver long-term durability and consistent performance.

Construction Features

  • High-strength spring steel construction

  • Precision-manufactured torsion bar design

  • Heat-treated for durability

  • Corrosion-resistant finish

  • Engineered for long service life

  • Designed to meet ARB performance standards

This heavy-duty construction helps maintain suspension consistency under demanding driving conditions.

Optimized for Overland & Off-Road Vehicles

Old Man Emu torsion bars are specifically designed for vehicles carrying additional front-end weight.

Ideal for Vehicles Equipped With

  • Steel front bumpers

  • Recovery winches

  • Skid plates

  • Auxiliary lighting

  • Recovery equipment

  • Overland accessories

Maintaining proper ride height helps preserve suspension travel, steering geometry, and overall vehicle handling.

Designed to Work with Old Man Emu Suspension Systems

For maximum suspension performance, ARB recommends pairing these torsion bars with compatible Old Man Emu Nitrocharger shocks and suspension components.

System Benefits

  • Improved suspension balance

  • Better ride control

  • Enhanced handling characteristics

  • Increased off-road capability

  • Consistent suspension performance

Direct-Fit Installation

Designed as a direct replacement for factory torsion bars, installation utilizes factory mounting points and adjustment hardware.

Installation Features

  • Direct-fit replacement

  • Compatible with factory suspension mounting locations

  • No fabrication required

  • Maintains factory suspension geometry

  • Adjustable through factory torsion bar adjusters

  • Professional installation recommended

  • Wheel alignment required after installation

Important Installation Information

Side-Specific Design

Old Man Emu torsion bars are pre-stressed during manufacturing and must be installed on the correct side of the vehicle.

  • L = Left (Driver Side)

  • R = Right (Passenger Side)

Installing the torsion bars on the incorrect side can negatively affect ride height, suspension performance, and long-term durability. Always verify the stamped markings before installation.

Ideal Applications

  • Overland builds

  • Off-road vehicles

  • Daily drivers

  • Expedition rigs

  • Work trucks

  • Towing applications

  • Vehicles with front bumpers and winches

  • Suspension restoration projects
