Overview
The ARB Old Man Emu Steering Damper is a vehicle-specific steering stabilizer for 1986–1995 Toyota 4Runner and Toyota Pickup 4WD models equipped with Independent Front Suspension (IFS).
Designed to reduce steering wheel kickback, vibration, and abrupt steering movement transmitted through the front tires, the damper improves steering control across pavement, washboard roads, potholes, and off-road terrain without interfering with normal steering return.
Its heavy-duty twin-tube construction, increased oil capacity, and protective stone guard make it well suited to daily-driven, overland, lifted, and off-road Toyota builds.

Heavy-Duty Steering Damper Design
The OME steering damper uses a twin-tube hydraulic design with a 35 mm piston and bore to provide consistent damping as the steering linkage moves through its operating range.
A heavy-gauge steel body protects the internal components, while the stone guard helps shield the exposed piston rod from rocks and road debris. Polyurethane and rubber mounting bushings isolate vibration while allowing proper steering movement.
The damper is particularly useful on vehicles that encounter rough roads, off-road terrain, or increased steering feedback from larger tire and wheel combinations.
