Overview

The ARB Old Man Emu Nitrocharger Plus Rear Shock Absorber is a vehicle-specific suspension upgrade for 1979–1983 1st Gen Toyota Pickup 4WD models.

Designed for stock ride height through approximately 2 inches of rear lift, the Nitrocharger Plus provides controlled damping for daily driving, towing, hauling, overlanding, rough roads, and off-road use. Vehicle-specific valving allows the shock to work with different vehicle weights and rear suspension configurations while maintaining predictable handling and suspension control.

Medium Load and Heavy Load valving options are available to better match the shock to the vehicle's normal operating weight.

Nitrocharger Plus Design

The Nitrocharger Plus uses a heavy-duty twin-tube steel body that provides additional protection for the internal working cylinder during rough-road and off-road use.

Its gas-charged design, high-flow piston, and vehicle-specific damping are engineered to maintain consistent suspension control across changing road surfaces and vehicle loads.

Stock Height & Lift Compatibility

These rear shocks can be used at factory ride height or with a properly configured suspension providing approximately 2 inches of rear lift.

The shock absorber itself does not create suspension lift. Rear ride height is determined by the leaf springs, shackles, and overall suspension configuration.

The Nitrocharger Plus can also be paired with compatible Old Man Emu rear leaf springs as part of a complete OME suspension system.

Medium Load

• Best suited for stock-weight and moderately modified trucks

• Appropriate for daily driving and lighter cargo loads

• Provides the more compliant option for vehicles without substantial permanent rear weight

Heavy Load

• Designed for trucks carrying significant constant additional weight

• Better suited for permanently installed bumpers, tire carriers, drawer systems, camping equipment, tools, and similar accessories

• Provides firmer damping and additional suspension control under sustained load

Choose the valving option based on the vehicle's normal constant operating weight, rather than occasional cargo.
