Overview

The ARB Old Man Emu Nitrocharger Plus Rear Shock Absorber is a vehicle-specific suspension upgrade for 1984–1989 Toyota 4Runner 4WD and 1984–1995 Toyota Pickup 4WD models.

Designed for stock ride height through approximately 2 inches of rear lift, the Nitrocharger Plus uses application-specific Old Man Emu valving to provide controlled damping for daily driving, towing, hauling, overlanding, rough roads, and off-road use.

These shocks are designed to complement factory or properly configured aftermarket suspension systems, including compatible Old Man Emu rear leaf springs. Medium Load and Heavy Load valving options are available to better match the vehicle's normal operating weight and permanent equipment.

Nitrocharger Plus Design

The Nitrocharger Plus uses a durable twin-tube steel construction designed to help protect critical internal components in demanding road and trail environments.

Its nitrogen gas-charged design, high-flow piston, and multi-disc compression valving help maintain consistent damping during repeated suspension movement, including highway driving, towing, overlanding, and off-road use.

Stock Height & Lift Compatibility

These shocks can be used at factory ride height or as part of a properly configured suspension system providing approximately 2 inches of rear lift.

The shock itself does not lift the vehicle. Rear ride height is determined by the rear leaf springs and overall suspension configuration.

When paired with compatible Old Man Emu rear leaf springs, the Nitrocharger Plus can be incorporated into a complete OME mild-lift suspension setup.

Available Valving Options

Two Nitrocharger Plus rear shock valving options are available for different vehicle weight configurations.

Medium Load

• Best suited for stock-weight or moderately modified vehicles

• Appropriate for daily driving and occasional cargo

• Provides a softer, more compliant ride

Heavy Load

• Designed for vehicles carrying constant additional weight

• Better suited for steel bumpers, armor, tire carriers, drawer systems, roof racks, camping equipment, or other permanently installed accessories

• Provides firmer damping and additional control under sustained load

Select the valving option that most closely matches the vehicle's normal operating weight and permanent equipment, rather than occasional temporary cargo.

Old Man Emu Nitrocharger Plus: Better suited for frequent off-road use, additional vehicle weight, towing, hauling, rough-road driving, or vehicles using other Old Man Emu suspension components.

Quick Recommendation: Choose Bilstein B6 4600 for a primarily stock-height daily driver. Choose Old Man Emu for heavier builds, frequent off-road use, or a complete OME suspension setup.
