Overview
The ARB Old Man Emu Dakar Rear Leaf Spring is a vehicle-specific rear suspension upgrade designed to provide approximately 2 inches of lift for classic Toyota 4Runner and Pickup 4WD models.
Dakar leaf springs use a heavy-duty multi-leaf design engineered to improve load support, suspension control, articulation, and stability compared with worn factory springs. They are well suited to daily-driven trucks, restoration projects, overland builds, work vehicles, towing applications, and off-road use.
Choose between Medium Load and Heavy Constant Load spring rates based on the vehicle's normal operating weight and permanently installed equipment.

Choosing the Correct Spring Rate
Medium Load
Best suited to stock-weight and moderately equipped vehicles carrying up to approximately 200 lb of constant additional rear weight.

Medium Load springs provide approximately 2 inches of lift while prioritizing a more compliant ride and balanced load support.
Heavy Constant Load
Designed for vehicles carrying approximately 400 lb or more of permanent rear weight from equipment such as:
- Steel rear bumpers
- Tire carriers
- Drawer systems
- Camping equipment
- Expedition gear
- Permanently installed overland accessories
Heavy Constant Load springs use a higher spring rate for increased load support and stability. Installing them on a lightly equipped vehicle may produce a noticeably firmer ride and additional rear ride height.
Dakar Spring Construction
Old Man Emu Dakar springs use a multi-leaf design with features intended to improve durability and suspension movement under demanding conditions.
Draw-tapered leaf ends, diamond-cut profiles, anti-friction pads, and bolted leaf clamps help reduce inter-leaf friction and support smoother articulation. The spring packs are also fully scragged and shot-peened to improve fatigue resistance and long-term dimensional stability.
A military-wrap design provides an additional layer of spring retention around the spring eye in the event of primary-leaf damage.
