ARB | OME Nitrocharger Plus Front Shock Absorber
For 1986–1995 Toyota 4Runner 4WD
Overview
The ARB Old Man Emu Nitrocharger Plus Front Shock Absorber is a vehicle-specific suspension upgrade for 1986–1995 Toyota 4Runner 4WD models.
Designed for stock ride height through approximately 2 inches of front lift, the Nitrocharger Plus combines application-specific damping with a heavy-duty twin-tube, nitrogen gas-charged construction. It is designed to provide controlled front suspension response during daily driving, towing, hauling, rough-road travel, overlanding, and off-road use.
The shock installs at the factory front mounting locations and can be used with the original suspension or as part of a properly configured Old Man Emu mild-lift suspension system.
Key Features
- Vehicle-specific Old Man Emu front shock tuning
- Designed for stock ride height through approximately 2 inches of front lift
- Heavy-duty twin-tube steel construction
- Nitrogen gas-charged design
- High-flow piston with multi-disc compression valving
- Controlled damping across pavement, rough roads, and off-road terrain
- Direct-fit installation using factory front shock mounting locations
- Works with factory or properly configured aftermarket suspension systems
- Suitable for mixed daily driving and off-road use
- Available individually or as a pair
Nitrocharger Plus Design
The Nitrocharger Plus uses a durable twin-tube steel shock body designed to help protect the internal working cylinder in demanding road and trail environments.
Its nitrogen gas charge, high-flow piston, and multi-disc compression valving work together to maintain consistent damping as the front suspension cycles through changing terrain and vehicle loads. This makes it well suited to 4Runners used for a combination of highway driving, rough roads, towing, hauling, and off-road travel.
Stock Height & Lift Compatibility
The Nitrocharger Plus supports factory front ride height through approximately 2 inches of front lift.
The shock absorber itself does not lift the vehicle. Front ride height is determined by torsion-bar adjustment and the overall suspension configuration.
When paired with properly configured Old Man Emu torsion bars and supporting suspension components, these shocks can be incorporated into a complete mild-lift suspension setup.

Old Man Emu vs. Bilstein B6 4600
Bilstein B6 4600
Better suited for lighter, primarily stock-height 4Runners where responsive handling and controlled on-road damping are the main priorities.
Old Man Emu Nitrocharger Plus
Better suited for 4Runners that regularly see off-road use, rough roads, towing, hauling, or additional permanent vehicle weight. It is also a strong choice when building a complete Old Man Emu suspension system.
For a mostly stock-height daily driver, the Bilstein B6 4600 is generally the better starting point. For heavier builds, frequent off-road use, or an OME suspension setup, choose the Old Man Emu Nitrocharger Plus.
Available Configurations
