All-Pro Off-Road Hy-Steer™ Crossover Steering Kit

For 1979–1985 Toyota Pickup & 1985 Toyota 4Runner with Toyota Solid Front Axle – Left-Hand Drive

Overview

The All-Pro Off-Road Hy-Steer™ Crossover Steering Kit converts the factory solid-axle steering layout to a high-steer crossover configuration designed for increased tie-rod protection and stronger steering components on trail-driven Toyota trucks.

Crossover steering routes the drag link from the steering-box pitman arm across to the right-side steering arm. The Hy-Steer design takes this a step further by positioning the tie rod above the leaf springs, moving it away from rocks and other trail obstacles that can damage a low-mounted steering linkage.

The kit uses forged SAE 8620 chromoly steering components, heavy-wall DOM tubing, and FJ80-style rod ends with 23 mm shanks. An IFS-style Toyota steering box is required for the crossover steering configuration.

Key Features

  • High-steer crossover steering system for Toyota solid-front-axle applications
  • Positions the tie rod above the leaf springs for increased trail protection
  • Left and right forged SAE 8620 chromoly steel steering arms
  • One-piece forged drop pitman arm
  • .250-inch-wall DOM steel tie rod
  • .250-inch-wall DOM steel drag link
  • FJ80-style rod ends with heavy-duty 23 mm shanks
  • Black powder-coated tie rod and drag link
  • Designed for use with an IFS-style Toyota steering box
  • Left-hand-drive applications only

Hy-Steer Crossover Steering Design

Traditional push-pull steering places the steering linkage in a more exposed position near the front axle. Crossover steering changes the linkage geometry by routing the drag link from the steering box across the vehicle to the right-side steering arm.

The Hy-Steer configuration also relocates the tie rod above the leaf springs. This higher position reduces its exposure to rocks, ledges, and other trail obstacles while retaining a straightforward mechanical steering layout.

The tie rod and drag link are manufactured from .250-inch-wall DOM steel tubing and use FJ80-style rod ends with 23 mm shanks. Forged SAE 8620 chromoly steering arms provide the connection at the solid front axle, while the forged drop pitman arm connects the drag link to the required IFS-style steering box.
